Childlike Grown Up

Do y'all remember that squeaky-clean, irrationally blue & bright way you used to see the world as a child? In the morning, when you woke up, everything was so golden and glowing. Rain was silver, and when it fell, you'd pull on your big rubbery boots and go splash in its daughter--the puddle. And you loved the color pink, and you sang when you were happy...and that was just that! You liked to play with your best friend's hair and draw on the sidewalk with chalk. Jump-roping wasn't a form of exercise; it was a game. Crushes made you blush and giggle and skip. And the butterflies went WILD in your stomach whenever you'd see him. You wore your hair in curls every day because that's the way it naturally hung. You were too busy and too on-a-roll with your childhood that you hadn't the time to waste on perfection, but you liked to play with lipstick and mascara. And you dreamed of the day you'd be old enough to wear it every day.
The funny thing is, I keep getting that same old childlike feeling. I'm seventeen and I keep growing DOWN inside, instead of growing UP. My heart feels light as a feather. Now, how's THAT for a great change?
