So, I read Twilight and New Moon within a four day period, and then decided to take a break after a long time of pondering over the fact that maybe, God would disapprove of my reading them.
I love the books, and it's a main topic of conversation among me and my friends-other than God and Christianity-because like me, they are constantly doing what they think is best as a Daughter of the Lord. But I'm very concerned that they (the books) will affect my relationship with my Jesus(: or that it is a bad thing, as a Christian girl, to be to interested or into them. I don't know.
So, I need EVERYONE's opinions who read this blog, and I will give you the pro's and con's.
HERE IT GOES!
Cons:
-Vampires. They seem somewhat satanic based on all of the myths and rumors we commonly hear; They are repelled by crosses, they have red eyes, they wear dark capes, they thrive on blood and rule the night. So from the outside, when you haven't read the book, it seems as though the book is full of Christian girl no no's. Though most of the rumors are not true in the book, most vampires are still nasty, dark creatures. There are some, in the second book, that actually have some attractive seductive 'tour guide' go out into a city in Italy to find harmless tourists and civilians to snack on.
-Stephenie Meyer is a Mormon. Mormons believe that there are levels in heaven, and you get there through good works and services for God and I have been lead to think that they don't believe that Christ has come (correct me if I'm wrong). That is simply not true!
-Very, very light amount of profanity. The Clique series, which is intended for younger girls, has more.
-Some Christians believe that other Christian singles should not read romance novels AT ALL because it distracts us from the good things that singles are meant to do for the glory of God.
-There is sexual content in the 4th book
-Please tell me more if you see more. I am more Pro-Twilight at the moment. If you have good facts that back up your reasoning for not liking the series TELL ME. I am very open minded about this situation.
Pros:
-Here's the mythbuster;the vampires are not repelled by crosses, or garlic. The Cullens do not suck human blood (though, as I said before, some do!), but they do thirst for it. NOR, do they wear dark capes or cloaks. The Cullens do not have red eyes (the ones who thrive on human blood do). They do not melt or die in the sunlight, they sparkle!
-Carlisle Cullen was a clergyman, and believes in God, and that souls can go to heaven by believing (or hell by the opposite) as well as most of the Cullen family. Edward believes in God and heaven, but thinks that vampires do not have souls, and that there should be no reward for such repulsive creatures.
-Edward also believes that it is best that he and Bella should stay pure and wait until marriage, and in the beginning, he never intended really to marry her anyway because that would obviously require them being together all the time which would spark tempations. Plus, he wants to preserve Bella's soul (because once again, he believes that vampires do not have souls)
Anyway, do you kinda know what I'm getting at here?
-Carlisle Cullen (head of the family, since I haven't mentioned that yet) 'saves' people in need.
-The Cullens are constantly thriving for the greater good. They know that they are better than sinking as low as to kill innocent human beings for their own needs; people deserve better than that. So it gives you the 'good guys' perspective instead of the bad.
-It's fantastic writing.
-In the front cover, there is a Bible verse. But the entire objective of the verse is to send the message that 'the forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest'. That could be a con, but it's a Bible verse, nonetheless.
ALSO, I must add that it really depends on the type of person you are; how much you can handle, how realistic you are, how strong in your faith you are, etc.
I, for one, am kind of obsessive on one certain topic for an uncertain amount of time. So, like I said, it's a main topic of conversation among my friends and I, and I'm so glad that I could actually put it down for a while so I could take my mind off of it and hopefully focus on a few good Christian books before resuming. But, I have a very realistic and mature point of view on things, and if I knew I would get TOO into it (as in, believing in all of the myths and fairytales)...that would be another story.

I haven't read them, but I think, as a Christian girl, that its just a book, and it shouldn't change your opinion that much. I hear they're good!
Very very nice points of views? however you say that.
I think the deciscion is yours.
I don't think there's anything wrong, as long as you stay true to what you believe.
